Fernando Salas has been inspiring, educating and mentoring other hairdressers for more than 35 years. His passion for the profession has helped take him from behind the chair to the stage as a successful platform artist to a salon owner to a manufacturer of a line of signature hair care products. As he continually strives to create products that help hairdressers push the limits, his primary focus is teaching them how to use the products and rediscover the creativity within.

The son of a barber, Salas was still in high school when he became a licensed cosmetologist. After spending a year working in a salon in an affluent area of Southern California, he left for Europe to soak in the education and broaden his expertise. He realized early on that being young and talented simply wasn’t enough. People wanted hairdressers with experience. So he turned to learning what he could from the best in the world in an effort to increase his clientele upon his return to the states.

Salas’ passion for education led him to various companies, including Helene Curtis, Clairol, New Image and Brilliant Products. He also worked behind the scenes to develop products for them, sparking the idea that he should create a line of his own. It would be years before he acted on it, concentrating instead on his skills as a master artist and representing the U.S. in the World Hairdressing Championships.

In 1999, Salas was invited to participate in the Premiere Beauty Show in Orlando. As he spent his day on stage styling hair, his wife and business partner Patricia sold the spray product he was using. By the end of the first day 200 pieces had sold – and the product didn’t even have a name. Salas knew his days of working for others were over, and by the end of the trip, he had christened the soon-to-be developed line White Sands.

Launched in 2000, White Sands is a comprehensive line of cleansing, conditioning, treatment, styling and finishing products that work from the inside out to nurture and protect the hair. In addition to the wet line, White Sands offers shears, styling tools such as flat irons and Velcro strips and collateral material such as instructional DVDs and brochures.

A family-owned and operated venture, Salas works closely with his sons Aarron and Noel to ensure that the branding of the line is in tune with its growth. He oversees all company operations, including research and development, photo shoots and image in addition to spending four days weekly behind the chair in his Newport Beach, CA-based salon. His dedication to education has not gone unrecognized: show demand has tripled for 2006 resulting in Salas expanding his team of educators.

In the coming months, Salas plans to introduce new products to both the hair care and styling tool lines. As the demand for White Sands increases worldwide, the line is quickly becoming as recognized for its innovative products as it is for the fantasy hair it showcases at trade shows and its vast celebrity presence on Hollywood movie and TV sets.

An industry veteran who has worked diligently to create a line where the results of the products are only limited to the creativity of the user, Salas continues to push the envelope among hairdressers as he spreads the message that knowledge is power.

The Joy of Taking Your Own Hairstyle Pictures

We love pictures and keep hundreds of them as much as possible. With the accessibility and even affordability of digital cameras, it is no longer impossible for one to keep more than a hundred pictures or what the digital era fondly calls as pictures. Even most laptops today now serve one purpose and that is to keep all our favorite digital pics. And if you’ve noticed most of these pictures feature your self, family, friends, and people we love. We love to keep shots of precious moments. But aside from being sentimental, we can also use pictures as a way to maintain or achieve a beautiful look and one is taking and keeping hairstyle pictures.

We’re used to seeing hairstyle pics of models and celebrities in glossy beauty or hairstyle magazines. We usually admire and envy them. Some people argue it is not good trying to imitate images in the magazines because it does not reflect reality. In other words, it would only leave us frustrated trying to have the look they project on those digitally enhanced pics that for hairstyle for instance they make the hair look impossibly shiny and vibrant.

Since technology has been empowering us to take control of our lives why not try it on getting a new hairstyle. One can try having his or her own hairstyle pictures that feature hairstyles of real people. Take note, real people. Thus, it should be unedited. You’ll soon realize that these hairstyle pics would someday be useful to you in choosing a new hairstyle.

You can start by taking pictures of people whom you find sporting a nice hairstyle. By looking around, you’d realize models and celebrities are not the only ones blessed with such gorgeous looking hairstyles.

Since laptops are portable, you can someday bring it with you in a hair salon and directly show one of your taken hairstyle pictures to the hairstylist and tell him or her that you want that hairstyle.

In the same way, you might as well take a shot of your self every time you have a new hairstyle. At least you have a remembrance of your different looks. It can also help you remember and decide what hairstyle you have tried really looks best on you. And you can again, show your hairstylist that picture, which you want to have the same hairstyle.

The Perfect Haircut for that Beautiful Face

You sometimes wonder why even if you wear the trendiest hair cut of the season, you still don’t have the allure celebrities sport with that cut. The woman sitting next to you who happens to wear the same hair cut, however, looks incredibly stunning. Then you go back scanning those hairstyle magazines again looking for the right celebrity hair cut that would suit you best. Lucky if you get the perfect one this time but chances are it could still be the wrong hair cut for you. Worst, if you chose a short hair cut looking awful with it, you still have to grow it for months before you can have the next cut. Unless of course you’d prefer to go bald!

Hair cuts are meant to highlight the best angle or feature of your face. Getting the perfect hair cut, therefore, is not a matter of trial and error of trying out trendy hair cuts sported by celebrities and top models. It’s just a matter of getting the right match of hair cut that would go with the shape of your face to get that perfect look.

Oval. Any hair cuts would suit a woman with an oval-shaped face. Long or short, straight or wavy cuts, she can definitely pull it off. Online CEU Classes For South Carolina Cosmetologists Approved

Online continued education classes are finally available in south carolina. I am going to be testing out Jay Lacy of Lacy Schools of Cosmetology classes later on today. I am a hands on person but wanted to test out this platform to let hair industry professionals find out the experience of the online format.

When I met Jay last year at the November 2010 class right before I had my baby in December he told me about the upcoming training in the works. For those of you looking for great hands on training you should check out Jay's School too.

In the meantime I want to let you know that you are only able to take 6 hours of CEU as of right now online. So for those of you who though you were going to skip training think again LOL.

Ardyss International Is Changing Lives: DOROTHY COOK Review

Ardyss began in 1991 as a Mexican Manufacturing Company with a new concept for corsetry, designed for reshaping the female figure. Like many big companies, the creation of Ardyss came about in an unpredicted manner.

Ardyss International was started by Antonio Díaz de León, his wife Armida Fonseca, and their two sons, Antonio and Alejandro. The Díaz de León Family was successful with Ardyss because of their hard work and dedication. Mr. Antonio Díaz de León went through very hard times before starting Ardyss International. He quit his job in the Customs Department in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico, and began looking for other opportunities. No one wanted to give him an opportunity, making the road a struggle.

Fortunately, destiny had something else waiting for him and his family. During a car trip to Mexico City, Mr. Díaz de León gave a ride to five teachers. He asked one of them why she was walking and she told him to save money. She also told him she was trying to make extra money by selling cosmetics. That is when Mr. Díaz de León decided to start his own business that would help other people. “I will make my company the strongest one,” he said. After analyzing the possibilities, he determined that initially it would be easier to sell undergarments than cosmetics.

The road was anything but simple. The entire family was involved in different areas of the business. Without any experience but equipped with only a great desire to learn, Mr. Díaz de León decided to rent an industrial warehouse that was 984 square feet in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. He begins with 8 sewing machines and 550 yards of material.

Through the years, the process of research and development of products has been optimized. Currently, Ardyss has a team of full-time professionals dedicated to maintaining an ongoing program to create new products and to continuously enhance our vast product line.

Back To School Time For My Kids

This week my kids started school. We all got to bed very early and my kids was very excited about returning to school the next day. It has been really busy at the schools with all the bus issues. I had to go pick up my 5 year old from school the very first day because his teacher didn't get him on the bus.

From here on out I've decided to take him to school and pick him up since I noticed the little kids getting lost at school in the halls. On the very next day my son told me he wanted to try riding the bus, so school let out and I waited for him for an hour and 30 minutes to get him when we live 5 minutes away.

My son came home crying because the bus driver passed our house he said mommy please take me to school and pick me up I'll be a good boy. So I'm going to see how this will go since I do most of my work while my kids are at school or late evening when my kids are asleep.
