Celebrity Educator & Product Line Developer Fernando Salas Of White Sands Is Appearing on Hair Artist Association Radio Show

I had the privilege of meeting Fernando in person at a continuing education class ,he was teaching at Lacy Cosmetology. After speaking with him and learning more about his products. I knew that I would want to learn more and more from Fernando to stay up to date with the industry.

I hunted him down to appear on The Hair Artist Association,LLC Radio Show because I felt his value would bring our members and others great success in the industry. Now we are having him as a guest September 29, 2011. To learn more about Fernando keep reading but to join us on the show go to http://blogtalkradio.com/hairartistassociation

Fernando Salas has been inspiring, educating and mentoring other hairdressers for more than 35 years. His passion for the profession has helped take him from behind the chair to the stage as a successful platform artist to a salon owner to a manufacturer of a line of signature hair care products. As he continually strives to create products that help hairdressers push the limits, his primary focus is teaching them how to use the products and rediscover the creativity within.

The son of a barber, Salas was still in high school when he became a licensed cosmetologist. After spending a year working in a salon in an affluent area of Southern California, he left for Europe to soak in the education and broaden his expertise. He realized early on that being young and talented simply wasn’t enough. People wanted hairdressers with experience. So he turned to learning what he could from the best in the world in an effort to increase his clientele upon his return to the states.

Salas’ passion for education led him to various companies, including Helene Curtis, Clairol, New Image and Brilliant Products. He also worked behind the scenes to develop products for them, sparking the idea that he should create a line of his own. It would be years before he acted on it, concentrating instead on his skills as a master artist and representing the U.S. in the World Hairdressing Championships.

In 1999, Salas was invited to participate in the Premiere Beauty Show in Orlando. As he spent his day on stage styling hair, his wife and business partner Patricia sold the spray product he was using. By the end of the first day 200 pieces had sold – and the product didn’t even have a name. Salas knew his days of working for others were over, and by the end of the trip, he had christened the soon-to-be developed line White Sands.

Launched in 2000, White Sands is a comprehensive line of cleansing, conditioning, treatment, styling and finishing products that work from the inside out to nurture and protect the hair. In addition to the wet line, White Sands offers shears, styling tools such as flat irons and Velcro strips and collateral material such as instructional DVDs and brochures.

A family-owned and operated venture, Salas works closely with his sons Aarron and Noel to ensure that the branding of the line is in tune with its growth. He oversees all company operations, including research and development, photo shoots and image in addition to spending four days weekly behind the chair in his Newport Beach, CA-based salon. His dedication to education has not gone unrecognized: show demand has tripled for 2006 resulting in Salas expanding his team of educators.

In the coming months, Salas plans to introduce new products to both the hair care and styling tool lines. As the demand for White Sands increases worldwide, the line is quickly becoming as recognized for its innovative products as it is for the fantasy hair it showcases at trade shows and its vast celebrity presence on Hollywood movie and TV sets.

An industry veteran who has worked diligently to create a line where the results of the products are only limited to the creativity of the user, Salas continues to push the envelope among hairdressers as he spreads the message that knowledge is power.

The Joy of Taking Your Own Hairstyle Pictures

We love pictures and keep hundreds of them as much as possible. With the accessibility and even affordability of digital cameras, it is no longer impossible for one to keep more than a hundred pictures or what the digital era fondly calls as pictures. Even most laptops today now serve one purpose and that is to keep all our favorite digital pics. And if you’ve noticed most of these pictures feature your self, family, friends, and people we love. We love to keep shots of precious moments. But aside from being sentimental, we can also use pictures as a way to maintain or achieve a beautiful look and one is taking and keeping hairstyle pictures.

We’re used to seeing hairstyle pics of models and celebrities in glossy beauty or hairstyle magazines. We usually admire and envy them. Some people argue it is not good trying to imitate images in the magazines because it does not reflect reality. In other words, it would only leave us frustrated trying to have the look they project on those digitally enhanced pics that for hairstyle for instance they make the hair look impossibly shiny and vibrant.

Since technology has been empowering us to take control of our lives why not try it on getting a new hairstyle. One can try having his or her own hairstyle pictures that feature hairstyles of real people. Take note, real people. Thus, it should be unedited. You’ll soon realize that these hairstyle pics would someday be useful to you in choosing a new hairstyle.

You can start by taking pictures of people whom you find sporting a nice hairstyle. By looking around, you’d realize models and celebrities are not the only ones blessed with such gorgeous looking hairstyles.

Since laptops are portable, you can someday bring it with you in a hair salon and directly show one of your taken hairstyle pictures to the hairstylist and tell him or her that you want that hairstyle.

In the same way, you might as well take a shot of your self every time you have a new hairstyle. At least you have a remembrance of your different looks. It can also help you remember and decide what hairstyle you have tried really looks best on you. And you can again, show your hairstylist that picture, which you want to have the same hairstyle.

Taking your own hairstyle pictures can really be fun especially if it is you yourself is the focus of the camera lenses.

Hairstyle Magazines: Grab Your Trendy Handbook

It is not unknown to many that a lot of misleading beauty advices are so rampant out there. There are people who claimed that they are beauty gurus. However, it turned out that they are hoax and had been giving unsolicited admonitions. With this in mind, where do you think you can acquire helpful and trendy advice on fashion styles and hairstyles? Well, a good place to start is through the pages of a reputable hairstyle magazine.

As you get yourself a copy of the latest edition of a hairstyle magazine or an issue of a black hair magazine, you already gain an access to the insider secrets and latest craze within the beauty world. You will no longer wait for a particular trend to become popular or waiting for people to showcase such trend. With your own hairstyle magazine, you can feast your eyes on the upcoming craze in hairstyles, and you can even sport such style way ahead of everyone else.

Now, your only concern is which hairstyle magazine you are supposed to buy. You want to consider the five leading style magazines as your guide to being in vogue. These are American Salon, Celebrity Hairstyles, Hype Hair, Modern Salons, and Short Hair Styles.

The American Salon is widely referred to by professionals. Within its glossy pages are techniques, trends and trade secrets as well, introduced by the A-list beauty professionals. You will not only learn about hairstyles alone, but also, the latest beauty treatments and innovative products, the newest color and cutting trends, and other bits of information that professionals know of. However, this magazine may be great in providing relevant knowledge on beauty, but it is not a good source in basing your next hairstyle, for it is full of jargons and articles that cannot be fully appreciated and understood by non-professionals.

Next in line is the Celebrity Hairstyles. If you are in search of hot styles flaunted by Hollywood beauties, then grab a copy of this magazine. This hairstyle magazine may just be what you need. Perhaps you are wondering how Faith Hill and Hilary Duff got their tousled locks? Enough for that, with this magazine, you will know. This fashionable publication is full of colored pictures inside it and technical how-to’s that you may follow, or take to the salon with you and show to your hairstylist.

Meanwhile, if black hair magazines are your style, then go for Hype Hair. This one serves as the modish handbook for black women. Hype Hair magazine features interviews, contests, fresh and funky hairstyles, and updated styles, from sleek to sedate, funky and corn rowed. There seemed to be everything for everybody in this black hairstyle magazine.

Like the American Salon, Modern Salon is especially for professionals only. The Modern Salon takes on a new approach to the modern look of beauty including make-up, hair, skin care, and nails. Also within its pages are interviews with some of the top professionals in the beauty industry.

Among the mentioned hairstyle magazines, the Short Hair Styles are most often seen in salons brought along by clients. The colorful pages of Short Hair Styles are adorned with photos sporting the latest cutting styles and colors. Within its pages, one can see the variety of hairstyles for different hair texture and ethnicity.

Additionally, more hairstyle magazines such as First, Vogue and Glamour are available offering their own trendy haircuts and hair care tips. For most women, a hairstyle magazine is the best way to keep in track with the most current hair styling ideas.

The Perfect Haircut for that Beautiful Face

You sometimes wonder why even if you wear the trendiest hair cut of the season, you still don’t have the allure celebrities sport with that cut. The woman sitting next to you who happens to wear the same hair cut, however, looks incredibly stunning. Then you go back scanning those hairstyle magazines again looking for the right celebrity hair cut that would suit you best. Lucky if you get the perfect one this time but chances are it could still be the wrong hair cut for you. Worst, if you chose a short hair cut looking awful with it, you still have to grow it for months before you can have the next cut. Unless of course you’d prefer to go bald!

Hair cuts are meant to highlight the best angle or feature of your face. Getting the perfect hair cut, therefore, is not a matter of trial and error of trying out trendy hair cuts sported by celebrities and top models. It’s just a matter of getting the right match of hair cut that would go with the shape of your face to get that perfect look.

Oval. Any hair cuts would suit a woman with an oval-shaped face. Long or short, straight or wavy cuts, she can definitely pull it off. Choppy bobs and hair layers near the chin, cheekbones, or lips would also look best. Just avoid blunt cuts and short layers on top of your head so your face won’t look unnecessarily long.

Oblong. Go for cuts that create an illusion of width such as chin-length bobs, curls, and waves. Bangs, which can be trendy if cut long or worn side-swept, can also create more width especially if you have straight hair. Avoid extreme long or short hair cuts that would further elongate the face.

Round. Hair cuts that allow your hair to fall below your chin or make the top of your head appear having a little volume are best for round-faced women. Wear a hair cut that would help your face look slimmer and less bulky such as getting soft graduated layers with tapered and wispy ends. Bangs can also be flattering. Just don’t go for one-length and blunt cuts, which overemphasize the roundness of your face.

Square. Playing down the angular strong jaw should be aimed in getting a haircut if you have a square-shaped face. Hair cuts that create texture such as choppy ends and curls would do brilliant effects for women with square-shaped faces. Avoid chin-length cuts, one-length bobs, and bluntly-cut bangs that make your face look more squarish.

Heart. Get a hair cut that would divert one’s attention away from that pointy chin such as highlighting the eyes or cheekbones instead. Side-swept bangs would do the works as well as a hair falling at or below the jawline. If you want to have a short hair cut, keep soft and long top layers, and go for wavy layers grazing the cheekbones if you want to sport a long hair cut. Avoid harsh choppy layers and bluntly-cut bangs.

So next time you browse those hairstyle magazines check if the celebrity or model has the same face shape as yours. A hair cut, after all, is meant for that pretty face.

Tips for Planning a Day Spa Party

Have you recently decided that you would like to host a day spa party?  If so, you may be excited.  With that said, it is important for you to start your planning.  To help you get started with doing so, a few important and helpful tips are highlighted below.

The first step in planning a day spa party is to create a guest list.  This is very important.  When you call around or use the internet to examine day spas and salons that offer private parties, you need to have an ideal total of guests.  As previously stated, this is important, as some day spas have restrictions on the number of guests they are able to accommodate.

Before sending out your day spa party invitations, it is important that you decide on a location.  If you end up changing the party information, it may lessen the chances of your guests showing up.  That is why you should make sure that you have appointments set for everyone before notifying your guests or before sending them party invitations.

Speaking of party invitations, you have a number of different options.  Blank invitations are sold at most retail stores, but you can also make your own.  Homemade invitations that are made on the computer or by hand are nice and affordable.  You may also be able to send out email invites, provided you have everyone’s email address.  With that said, know that actual invitations are more personal and often appreciated by guests more.

As for selecting the day spa to have your private party at, you will first want to examine all of your local options.  You can do this by using online business directories, a standard internet search, or your local phone book.  Contact the day spas in your area and inquire about private parties.  Next, determine the number of guests that they are able to accommodate.  This may automatically eliminate some of your options right away.

It is also important to examine the services that are available to you and your guests.  Typically speaking, you will find that establishments that double as day spas and salons have the biggest selection of services to choose from.  The more services and procedures that your guests are able to undergo, the better the party you are likely to have.

Speaking of services, it is important to examine how your party will be paid for.  Generally speaking, the host is responsible for payment, but you may have other plans.  If your guests are required to pay a fee, even just a small percentage, be sure to let them know ahead of time.  You don’t want to force anyone to attend a party that they must help pay for.  As for your payment options, examine spa packages.  If they are available, which they should be, you may be provided with a small discount.  Make sure you choose attractive packages that your guests will like, such as those that include full body massages and facials.

In keeping with your payment options, you also have the option of providing your party guests with a set amount.  For example, you can give everyone $100 to use.  This approach is nice, as they are able to choose their own packages.  For example, $100 may buy a half an hour massage, a new haircut, and a professional makeup application.  This approach is nice, but it is often less organized, which may not be what you were seeking.

If it is possible, do not pay for everyone’s packages or spa treatments until the day of your private party actually arrives.  A day spa may request that you pay a non-refundable deposit.  This is okay, especially if they will be temporarily closing down their business for your private party.  As for the guests, it is important to remember that last minute changes and emergencies do occur.  That is why you should avoid prepaying for all your guests, especially if you won’t get your money back.

How to Find the Perfect Beauty School to Attend

Are you interested in persuing a career that is focused on fashion and beauty? If you are, you have number of different career opportunities and jobs to choose from. For instance, you can run your own fashion consultation business, run your own beauty salon, or even a beauty supply store. Although having your own business is nice, you can also work as a beauty supply store worker or be an employee at a beauty salon.

As you can see, you have a number of different jobs and career opportunities to choose from. The only thing that you need to remember is that it is sometimes difficult to get a job or run a successful business that is focused on beauty and fashion. Although it is more than possible to do so, you need to examine the competition. As beauty and fashion increase in popularity, more individuals want to work in that field. What you want to do is set yourself apart from everyone else. To do this, you may want to think about receiving the proper amount of education and training.

When it comes to receiving beauty education and training, you will find that you have a number of different options. For instance, there are two and four year colleges and universities that you can attend. These colleges and universities give you a college degree, one that is often for cosmetology. In addition to attending an accredited college or university, you can also attend a traditional beauty school. Beauty schools are often run by experts in the field and they are often more affordable to attend. While you may not necessarily receive a college degree for attending a beauty school, you should be able to walk away with a certificate of completion.

If you do decide that you would like to attend a college, university, or beauty school, to get the proper amount of beauty training, there are a number of important factors that you may want to take into consideration. One of those factors is the cost of doing so. Beauty schools can be fairly expensive to attend, especially if those schools are considered accredited colleges and universities. Yes, you may be able to financial aid, in the form of student loans, scholarships, and grants, but there are no guarantees. Before going broke trying to attend beauty school, you may want to make sure that it is a career that you are serious about. Also, if you are willing to relocate, it may be easier for you to find a more affordable beauty school or college to attend.

Reputation is also something that you should think about when looking to find a beauty school to attend. In all honesty, most colleges and universities have outstanding records; therefore, you may be making a good choice with attending one, even really any one. As for a beauty school that isn’t necessarily considered a college or university, you will want to be careful when making your choice. Some beauty schools come highly rated and recommended, but there are others that some employers are actually encouraged to stay away from. To ensure that your beauty training and education is well worth it, will help you get a job or help you start a successful business, you will want to make sure that you choose a beauty school that has an outstanding reputation.

The above mentioned factors are just a few of the many that you may want to take into consideration, when choosing a beauty school to attend. If you are interested in researching beauty schools, colleges, and universities on your own, you may want to think about turning to the internet. With a standard internet search, with a phrase like “beauty schools,” you should be able to find the online websites of numerous beauty schools, as well as colleges and universities that have cosmetology programs. If you are still in high school, you may want to think about approaching your guidance counselor for assistance.
